About Sweet Justice

Beth Justice started singing in high school. She studied voice in college and has been fronting bands since 1985. Her husky voice will remind you of the styles of Bonnie Raitt, Stevie Nicks and Sheryl Crowe. Every now and then, she has the tendency to walk out into the crowd while singing her song. She says, "Having fun while expressing the music with emotion and connecting with the audience is what I try to achieve."

Mike James, drummer and vocalist was meant to be in Sweet Justice. Back in 2002, Sweet Justice had lost it's drummer. When a SJ fan found out, they saw Mike's drivers plates that read, "DRUMS" on his Jeep and flagged him down. The fan asked Mike if he was a drummer. When he responded, "Yes", the SJ fan called Beth on her cell phone, handed it to Mike (who wasn't sure what was going on). Mike's been in the band ever since. Must be fate!!

Mike has been playing for the past 35 years in the popular bands, Visions, Blue Light Special, Circuit Breakers and the Sequels, just to mention a few. Back in the 1980's, he was a full time musician touring the East Coast.

Linni Disse's career as a musician was mapped out from a young age, when his father began to teach him to pick at the age of just four. His interest in playing continued at a steady pace (although with many of the other things that keep kids interested!) until he got deeply into playing his chosen instrument.
Linni has played around the circuit quite a bit over the years - the bands he played in were: Justus, Tropical Johnson, Blue Light Special, The Press, Happy Van Gogh, Bamboozled, Daddy-oh and Gator Country, a great band that featured among its number the legendary ex-Molly Hatchet drummer and our good friend, Bruce Crump. Linni brings to Sweet Justice his pro experience and lots of "Heart" in his quality sound!

Martin Shifflett came out of retirement to run sound for Sweet Justice back in 2009. The band knew Martin through Mike, our drummer, because they worked together full time when they were on the road in the 80's. Martin produces a sweet sound that is amazing to hear! The band appreciate his ear, knowledge and upbeat attitude. He is The Sound Guru!!

Kevin Brackett is kicking butt on lead guitar, keyboards , harmonica and vocals. Bandmembers knew when they heard him, that he would be a perfect fit! We are excited to have him as such an important member adding much more to the band than we've ever had before!! You ROCK Kevin!

Lisa Shifflett - Lisa has been our official Photographer/Videographer and Den Mother since Martin came aboard. Besides being a great photographer, she is a great gal and a good friend! When we are lucky enough to share pictures, it is because of her dedication and hard work throughout the night capturing the crowd and band. She is very valuable to the group.

Donna James - Donna is married to Mike, our drummer. She is another wonderful person who is our good friend, supplying the band with a place to practice and other helpful things along the way! We couldn't do it without her support!

Sometimes things happen when we need an alternate for a player who can't be at the gig. We can't forget to mention our friend and awesome musician, Bruce Crump, (original drummer for Molly Hatchett and Gator Country) who has come to the rescue whenever we've needed him!

Becky Brackett is our guitar player, Kevin's wife. She is always going the extra mile to help promote the band. She is definitely great at rounding up a crowd to come see us! Thank you Becky for always helping out!

Rod McMordie is originally from Winston-Salem, NC. He has been playing bass guitar and singing for 30 years. He toured the East Coast full time in the 80's and 90's with the Rock bands Salems Lot and Gutter Boy, and the Country bands Wildfire and Rockinhorse.

ABOUT US...

After the breakup of The Burton House Rockers (BHR) in 2000, the lead singer Beth Justice decided to start her own band. With the help of good musicians, friends and fans, Sweet Justice was created.

Throughout the past ten years, Sweet Justice has consistently experienced success because of the musical chemistry the band possesses as well as the band members, their fans and friends dedication.
